Southbank and South Melbourne

Info
Intro

Interesting area dominated by the yin and yang of an enormous casino and beautiful botanic gardens. Some big nightclubs here. You can lose all your money at the card table or just run a pineapple through the Queen of the Nile at the casino.

Girls

Heaps of tourists here. Lots of girls who are in town for a day or two end up in the Casino for a night out. In the Summer the park along the river and the botanical gardens are great to stroll through. You will find plenty of tourist and local girls here. Nightlife is pumping from Thursday to Sunday.

Nightlife
The Albion

Great rooftop bar that is busy on the weekend. Good looking girls but the crowd here is pretentious and drinks are expensive.

Seven

Very young crowd but the girls here are beautiful. Commercial house is the order of the day. You have to get in before 10 because there is a long line. Lots of Vietnamese & Filipino girls here.

Level 3 Nightclubs at Crown

There are a couple of nightclubs upstairs at the Casino. A bit trashy but there are a lot of people who are just in town for a few days and looking to have fun.

P.J. O Briens Irish Pub

Southbank Busy Irish bar in a shopping mall.

Ponyfish Island

Nice outdoor bar at the foot of a pedestrian bridge. Great for summer afternoons but it is busy.

Attractions
Melbourne Botanic Gardens

Beautiful, peaceful gardens. Very popular with joggers and a great place for a walk or an afternoon nap.

The Crown Casino

Huge casino taking up a few blocks. Good for a bit of gambling. It has a few bars that show live sport and stay open late. Along the river in front of the casino there are big flamethrowers that put on a show every night.

South Melbourne Market

Great little market with a bit of everything. Famous for huge dimsums. Open Wednesday and weekends and incredible value on Sundays at about 3.

NGV International

Free entry to one of the best art galleries in the country.

Eureka Skydeck 88

Incredible view from Melbourne's highest building. The edge is a glass box that slides out from the building for a terrifying view straight down. Cheaper to book online (eurekaskydeck.com.au).

Food
Andrews Burgers

Famous burger joint. You may need to wait a while for one but it is always worth it.

Ayam Penyet RIA

Cheap delicious Indonesian food. Try the ribs.

Wings of Glory

Big plates of wings and blue cheese sauce. Not the cheapest place but tasty and good for a group.

St Ali

Nice coffee.

Accommodation
Munro St

Has free overnight parking as do many other streets around here. This is an industrial area so not the most romantic spot but it is quiet. DFO shopping mall has showers and free wifi.

Sandridge Beach

There are showers here and BBQs. Hard to find overnight parking. You may be allowed to stay parked for a while because this is where the ferry to Tasmania leaves from.

Urban Central

Clean hostel with a bar downstairs. Can be very loud.
