Fleurieu Peninsula and McClaren Vale

Info
Cape Jervis

This is where boats leave to Kangaroo Island.

Beaches
Second Valley Beach

Beautiful spot to swim and work on your tan. Also some great fishing here. Great for snorkelling and you may see Fur Seals towards the end of the day. It is also a good spot for cliff jumping. Head south from the jetty and you should see a trail taking you over the headland to the cliff jumping spot

Maslin Beach

Nice nude beach and home of the annual Pilwarren nude games. Second Sunday in January.

Port Noarlunga

A nice beach with a reef that is great for snorkeling. The underwater trail off the jetty here will give you a good taste of South Australia marine life. Look out for Leafy Sea Dragons. Try jumping off the jetty with the locals.

Attractions
Canoe the Coorong

Hire kayaks for one day or multi day paddles through this incredible lake system. They also organise tours and you can rent camping gear.

Swim with the Tuna

You will be taken out to an in-sea aquarium to look at the fish. Then get your wetsuit on and dive in with these huge fish. A unique experience.

Granite Island

Walk across the causeway (or go by horse and buggy). There is a short trail around the island with good views of Encounter Bay, the Bluff, islands and whales. At night you may be able to see penguins here though numbers are dwindling.

Newland Head Conservation Park

This park has 2 beautiful beaches, Waitpinga and Parsons. Both are good surfing spots and decent for fishing. There is also a campsite here and a hut where you are unlikely to run into rangers. Some nice walks here.

Deep Creek Conservation Park

Lots of wildlife and some great walks. Whales can be spotted from lookouts here from June to October. If you have a 4wd check out the beautiful Blowhole Beach. There is a waterfall here along the Deep Creek Waterfall hike 2-3 hours return. The waterfall is better in winter after rains but there is a permanent waterhole to swim in. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife around dusk. Fiv ..

Onkapringa National Park

Great walks, beautiful lookouts and lovely swimming holes. Try the Sundews River Hike. About 4 hrs return starting at Sundews Lookout. The walk takes in a couple of generally reliable waterholes. Better to walk the trail clockwise. Some good rock climbing spots near gate 10 on Piggott Range Rd and gate 15 at Chapel Hill Rd.

Elite Dive Academy

Scuba and snorkel hire. They can take you out for a dive if you like.

Food
Deep Blue Cafe

Great cafe on beautiful Moana Beach. Good coffee and very good pizza. Not cheap but a really welcoming spot. If conditions are right this beach is a good place for a surf.

Accommodation
Port Elliot Beach House YHA

Nice hostel in Victor Harbor. They do surfboard hire and free bodyboards and also organise Swim with the Tuna tours.

McLaren Vale Backpackers

Good Backpackers to stay at if you want to cycle through wineries in McClaren Vale. Also a working hostel for those with grapepicking/winemaking jobs here.

Oxygen Cycles

Hire a bike to do a wine tour here.

Stringybark Campground

Great campsite with hot showers and flush toilets. Sites are big and there is a lot of shade. Expect to see lots of roos in the morning. Bookings through the Parks SA website. Rangers do check this site.

Pink Gum Campground

Hard to get away with not paying at this campsite. Plenty of shade and one toilet facility no water on site.
