Hunter Valley

One of the more well known wine regions in the country. Famous for Semillon and Shiraz. Due to the distance between wineries it is not the best place for biking between wineries but it is possible around Pokolbin. The hop on hop off tour or guided tours are probably a better option. Many wineries are charging to sample wines.

Maitland is the last place you would expect a great bar like this. Lots of good bands playing. Its always a good time. Friendly crowd, cold beer and great burgers.

Gloucester Falls

This road should be OK for 2wd if the weather is dry. Fairly easy 1 1/2 hour track walking track through beautiful sub alpine forests. Lots of lookouts. The waterfalls are spectacular after rains. You can also walk the Gloucester Tops circuit here which takes about 4 hours and is one of the best walks around.

Ladies Well

Further up Allyn River Rd from campsite. Beautiful clear and cold water swimming hole. Popular in the summer but you can have it to yourself sometimes when the weather cools down.

Hunter Valley YHA

Great hostel and generally a really quiet one. They have a swimming pool, BBQ and hammocks. There is a nice pub walking distance down the road.

Allyn River Forest Campground

A couple of great free campsites in this area. Can be busy. You need a 4wd. Close to Ladies Well swimming hole.

The Steps Barrington Campground

Nice small campground you can swim and kayak in the river and there is a mountain bike park.
