Intro

Adelaide has a reputation as the most boring place in the country. But the reality is that it is not that hard to have a good time here. It is compact, easy to get around and Friday and Saturday nights in Adelaide are as good as anywhere in the country. Adelaide is at its best in the summertime, particularly February when the city comes alive with festivals and events.

Girls

To meet girls during the day the main option is Rundle Mall/Rundle Street. Particularly on the weekend. Adelaide Uni is nearby and is worth wandering through. Monday night is great at The Grace Emily, one of the best pubs in town. Tuesday is usually quiet but the Edinburgh Hotel can be good in the summer. Wednesday night is good at Sugar or try the salsa night at Casablabla, later ... ... ...

Transport

Adelaide Metro has a pretty good ticketing system. If you are staying for a longer period of time you can get the Metrocard. They have a good bus and train network as well as a tram that goes from the city to Glenelg beach. The city connector bus is free. It does a loop of major spots in the city. There is also a free city connector bus that goes to North Adelaide. The tram is free between ... .

Airport

Adelaide International Airport is close to the city and the beaches. JetBuses run all day and will take you into the city for $5.10 during peak, $3.30 off-peak. Skylink Adelaide run a shuttle service which will cost about $8 into town. Taxis and ubers are available outside the terminal.

Nightlife
General

Like many big cities in Australia Adelaide has a lockout law. You can not enter or re-enter a venue after 3am.

Distill

The bar is split over two levels. Great sound system. The upstairs has a dancefloor. The bar downstairs is more of a chill out zone. Drinks are expensive here and it has the crowd to match.

The Exeter

>A popular student bar during the day and early evening. As the night goes on the crowd gets more diverse and interesting. It has a lot of rooms.

The Austral

The Austral is one of the bigger pubs in town and always packed on the weekend. Popular with backpackers as well as locals. Easy place to have a good time. Good vibe and lots of girls.

Sugar

This bar is popular for hip-hop/RnB nights on Wednesday. Plays some interesting music and attracts some interesting characters. If you come on the right night the girls here are gorgeous.

Hacienda

Pretty standard R&B nightclub check it out on the weekend. They have a stripper pole in here.

London Tavern

Cheapest drinks in Adelaide and the crowd reflects this. Lots of students, lots of young girls. Thursday is uni night, Friday night it is one of the busiest places in town.

The Balcony Bar

Attached to the Blue Galah Hostel. This is a great place to have a few drinks and hang out with travellers and students from the language school next door. Cheap drinks, good vibes and a great spot all around.

Holey Moley

A late night putt putt spot. Lots of fun.

General Havelock

The place to be on Thursdays and worth popping your head in on the weekend.

Grandstand

Sports Bar in the Casino open all the time and has major sports events live.

The Woolshed

Huge bar with lots of rooms and a big beer garden out the back. Lots of women, both young and old. There's a mechanical bull here. Grimy in a good way. Lots of country girls.

Dog n Duck

Pretty chilled out spot for this part of town.

West Oak Hotel

Lively bar which draws a young crowd including many students. Music here is really good here lots of funk, jazz and some drum and bass.

The Cumberland Arms

An interesting spot which tries to be all things to all people. There is a dance floor here that usually has a house DJ. Hard to tell whether this place will be busy or empty.

The Grace Emily

Really cool place which has great live music. On Monday night they have Billy Bob's BBQ Jam, a great open mic and a free sausage sizzle in the beer garden. Great vibe for socialising.

Casablabla

Spanish style bar. They have a free salsa night on Wednesday which is worth checking out.

Rocket Bar

Easy enough to walk past this place. The bar is a really cool live music venue hosting mainly indie bands. Friday night draws the hipster crowd. The rooftop bar is really nice and has a good social vibe. They sometimes have movie nights.

HQ

This is a super club with the best sound system in Adelaide. Expect to pay an entry fee. Saturday and Wednesday are big nights. Saturday you can expect house music and Wednesday is the retro night. Fridays are big depending on who is playing. Big DJs that come through Adelaide play here. Mostly attracts 18-23 year old crowd.

Jive

Live venue that hosts big acts. Also home to indie dance night on Saturdays after the bands have finished. Hipster crowd but nice people.

Red Square

Hate it or love it this place is always busy on the weekend. Young crowd, many of them can't hold their alcohol very well. Lots of fights and drinks spilled everywhere. You have to be pretty drunk or on drugs to get involved here.

Zhivago

This place has a bit of a hipster vibe. The layout of the place means that it is not very social. Sunday nights is hospo night here and this is one of the better places in town on Sundays. Drinks are expensive.

The Duke

Nice beer garden and friendly atmosphere. Not the best looking crowd. Drinks are cheap on Thursday and Saturday nights.

Super California

Good on Friday and Saturday nights. Plenty of talent at this bar and a decent sized dance floor.

Downtown on Hindley

An R&B club open on the weekends. This place is a big draw for Black, Arab and Asian girls. Security can be over the top but the crowd is friendly.

Atlantis Lounge Bar

Pretty standard R&B club. Might be worth popping your head into on the weekend.

The Lion

Big bar with a club feel. Older crowd. Worth a look on Sunday in particular. Bar closes at midnight.

Royal Oak SA

This is always good fun. Older crowd as with most places in North Adelaide. Bar closes at midnight.

The Oxford Hotel

Open a bit later than other bars in the area.

The Alma

Amazing spot in the summer. It's a good mix between club and bar. The beer garden is always pumping as is the dance floor. Good looking girls. Sunday afternoon this is the best place in town.

Robin Hood Hotel

Lots of talent if you go for a big event here. Christmas Eve here is amazing here.

Edinburgh Hotel

Great pub where uni students flock to in the summer on Tuesday nights.

Attractions
Adelaide Central Market

Open Tuesday through Saturday. A great market. Cheap on Saturday afternoon. Lots of great fruit and veg places. A couple of great food spots. Friday nights it is open to 9pm and is busy.

Adelaide Casino

A small casino with a pretty good sports bar.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens

Great place for a picnic a walk. Nice cafe in the Gardens.

Elder Park and Torrens River

Great place to chill out along the river and walk through the parklands. The whole city is surrounded by parklands great for BBQs and football games.

Marksman Indoor Firing Range

Something different and pretty good value. Best to make a booking.

Adelaide Showgrounds Farmers Market

Lots of people shopping for fruit and veg. Cheap place to get food.

Coopers Brewery

Best brewery in Australia. They have a pretty good tour here. Not cheap but all proceeds go to charity. Tuesday to Friday at 1.00pm. Book ahead.

Plant 4 Bowden

Open Wednesday night and weekends. A really cool market with a party vibe. Great for food, music and chilling out.

Haighs Chocolate

Tour of the chocolate factory. They make great chocolate and the tour is free and comes with free samples. Tours run at 11AM, 1PM and 2PM Monday through Saturday. Book ahead.

Food
Australias Pizza House

Legendary pizza chain. Open late and does deliveries. Good pizza and good prices. A few different spots throughout the city.

Jerusalem Sheshkebab House

Great kebab joint. Maybe the best falafel in the country. This place is BYO and good for vegans.

Yiannis on Hindley

Legendary yiros joint that makes great food. Friendly and open til 10pm on the weekend.

Peter Rabbit

Nice cafe with a backyard vibe.

Rundle Square

Couple of cheap places in here. The Indian place in particular is good.

Nano

Great coffee. Also a nice place for a sit down breakfast. Good place for a pie floater which is an Adelaide culinary must.

Market Plaza Food Court

Many different Asian food stalls at reasonable prices. You can load up your plate from the bain marie if you are hungry.

Pasta from $10 a plate.

Accommodation
Plaza Hotel

Good spot in the West End. Very loud.

Adelaide Backpackers and Travellers Inn

Friendly and helpful place. Clean and not too busy or loud.

Adelaide Central YHA

Nice and clean. Not as social as other places. It has good a/c. Free pancakes.

Tequila Sunrise Hostel

Friendly and social place. They have some events and also free pancakes. Very clean and good location.

My Place Adelaide

Clean and social place. Freebies include breakfast and bus to Glenelg beach. Great balcony for having a beer on.

Sunnys Backpackers Hostels

Great backpackers and friendly staff. The cheapest hostel in Adelaide but also one of the best. It is not the cleanest.

The Austral

Rooms upstairs from this bar. Rooms are clean but can be loud.

Adelaide Travellers Inn

Friendly staff and great weekly rate. Not the cleanest place. In a quiet part of town.

Blue Galah

Clean and comfortable. Can be loud here as the road is busy and the bar is too.

Hostel 109

Clean and has very comfy beds. Not a social hostel. Quiet place with a great location. Good parking and BBQ area.

Shingos Backpackers

Strange place but the price is good and it is clean enough. The other backpackers are friendly but the staff are not.

Backpack Oz

Great hostel with friendly staff. Lots of long term guests. They have free breakfast.
