Inner West


Lots of students and hipsters hang out here and there is a great vibe in the area. Some cool bars and restaurants and plenty to do. Good place to hang out and it is not overrun with tourists.


King St and Enmore Rd are busy with students and hipster girls. Glebe Point Rd is also a good spot, more so on the weekend. In between is the Uni campus which is busy during uni semesters. Great nightlife here and it is not technically affected by lockouts though most bars close around 2am or 3am by choice. Thursday night is busy at The Marlborough. The Newtown Hotel

A bit fancy by Newtown standards. Drinks are pretty cheap and they have $4 pizza happy hours. Great for people watching if you can get a seat on the verandah.

The Marlborough Hotel

Cool bar with a slightly older crowd. In the basement is Tokyo Sing Song, a karaoke nightclub. Pop your head in here on the weekends because if there is a crowd it is always a good time.

Kellys on King

Pretty standard Irish pub. Can get a bit loose in here. They always seem to have a karaoke night. Busy with backpackers on the weekend.

The Courthouse

An institution in Sydney. Nothing better than sitting in the beer garden here on a summer's day. Very busy and hard to get a seat on the weekend. Lots of students.

Websters Bar

Nice rooftop bar. Not much space when it get busy.

The Bank Hotel

Huge pub that is really busy on the weekends. Mixed crowd here but friendly and you can pretty much do what you want. Cheap jugs of beer.

The Town Hall Hotel

Grungy pub known for great live bands and quiz on Wednesday & Thursday. Don't be fooled by the TAB downstairs head straight upstairs. It has an indie hipster crowd which is standard for Newtown.


Open late and has good music if you like house. The crowd is small and cliquey. After about 2 they make you put headphones on to hear the music. Expect $15 cover.

Earls Juke Joint

Quiet bar disguised as a butcher.


This bar is really small and cramped but they have great bands and a cool crowd. Obviously a rock bar.

The Little Man

Great small bar and it is very sociable here. Drinks are expensive but they mix them strong. Free popcorn is a bonus.

Friend in Hand Hotel

Truly friendly pub which is a rarity in Sydney. Always something going on here including open mic nights, quiz, poetry readings & crab racing.

Forest Lodge Hotel

Popular uni bar and local hangout. Good pub that has everything you need. Busy on the weekends.

The Landsdowne Hotel

Pumping student bar with great bands playing upstairs. Great place to have a beer on the weekend.


Nice quiet place through the week and a good place to party on the weekend. Really interesting vibe and a great crowd.

The Lord Gladstone

Good pub with friendly staff. Plenty going on including an art gallery upstairs.

Victoria Park Swimming Pool

Beautiful park with a nice swimming pool.

Glebe Markets

Every Saturday there is a great market here with lots of clothes and food. Sometimes has live music.

Sappho Books

Great bookstore and cafe. Holds regular live events, music and poetry readings. More books next door at Gleebooks.

The Ledge

Small friendly climbing center. It is open late and you can climb for $14.

The Addison Rd Centre

Has a market every Sunday. Lots of interesting stuff including concerts and food.

Thai La-ong

Spicy, delicious Thai food at great prices. $8 lunch specials and great entrees.

Rowda Ya Habibi

Authentic kebabs and salads. Cheap, delicious and open late. Baklava and other desserts are great too.

Lentil As Anything

Pay what you feel vegetarian restaurant. Mainly curries and salad.

Manoosh Pizza

Great pizza, wraps and Lebanese snacks. They have cheap pizza Monday to Wednesday.

Cow and The Moon

Maybe the best ice cream in the country.

Faheem Fast Food

Good Indian/Pakistani food at good prices. Tandoori here is one of the best in town. Open til midnight.

Pastizzi Cafe

Pastizzi are little bits of meat wrapped in flaky pastry. Delicious and available late into the night. Good coffee and some pasta dishes are also available.

Badde Manors

Nice vege cafe with great cakes. Open late.

Marrickville Pork Roll

Long lines for the pork rolls here but they are pretty good.

Hai Duong Restaurant

Lots of Vietnamese restaurants along the road here. This one of the best and prices are reasonable.

Tempe Recreation Reserve

Quiet spot with overnight parking. There are toilets and BBQs here. All the shops you need just down the road and you can wander over to the airport for showers. Close to Tempe train station to get into town as well.

Fox Ave

Overnight parking in the heart of Sydney. Nice park here and toilets at the sports centre. BBQs at Harry Noble Reserve next door. No showers. There is a train station nearby.

Federal Park

Lots of overnight parking here in a pleasant spot very close to the city. Toilets and BBQs are available and you can catch the light rail into the city.

Mad Monkey Broadway

Really friendly staff and a great hostel. Good place to store luggage and they organise a lot of events and free dinners on top of daily free breakfast. Party atmosphere.

Rooftop Travellers Lodge

Weekly rates available. Good place for a long term stay. Rooms have fridges and TVs.

Glebe Point YHA

Nice clean hostel with good common areas including a rooftop BBQ terrace.

Billabong Gardens

Quiet spot with a pool and good facilities.

Cambridge Lodge

Great facilities, free breakfast and good common areas. Staff and other guests are friendly. Some way out of the city but there is a train station nearby.
