Cronulla and Southern Suburbs

Far enough out of the city to be quiet and give you plenty of space at the beach. This is a gorgeous part of Sydney that draws surprisingly few tourists. Particularly good for surfers. It has a reputation for being racist but in reality is no more racist than other parts of Sydney. That being said, if you have a middle eastern background or appearance you might have to deal with rude local boga ..

Cronulla Beach brings in plenty of babes, especially on the weekend. Cronulla Mall is also a good place to meet girls on the weekend. Be careful not to get carried away and start a riot. Northies can be a good bar on the weekend.

South Cronulla Beach

Busy and protected. This is a nice beach to swim or relax on a sunny day.

North Cronulla Beach

On the northern side of the headland from South Cronulla Beach this long swathe of sand is divided into North Cronulla, Eloura & Wanda Beach. Lots of surf breaks all along the beach. Plenty of parking and few crowds apart from at the city end on the weekend. Some strong rips, in particular the Alley at the southern end of the beach.

Gunnamatta Bay

Quiet beach and a netted swimming area good for swimming laps or just splashing around. You can jump off the wharf into the ocean.

Shelley Beach

Nice place for a BBQ or swim in the rock pool. Can be busy on the weekend.

Oak Park

Really beautiful beach and rock pool to the south of Shelley Beach. Quieter than Shelley Beach.

Towra Beach

Only accessible by boat or kayak it is a decent paddle from the boat ramp at the end of Prince Charles Prd in Kurnell. Those that make it out here will be rewarded with a beautiful beach in the middle of Sydney that is always empty. This is an important nesting area for some birds so take care.

Brighton Beach

Long quiet harbour beach with some swimming enclosures along it. Good for walking and for kitesurfing. Lots of places to park and BBQs. Good fishing here especially at the northern end where the Cooks River meets the harbour.

Legendary party spot. Northies is one of the loosest places in Sydney on the weekend. Lots of beach babes and bogans. Beers are reasonably priced.

Cronulla RSL

Beautiful spot for a beer overlooking the beach.

Cronulla Surfing Academy

Great place to learn to surf near Sydney.

Kitesurfing Lots of good spots in Botany Bay for Kitesurfing. There are a couple of shops in Brighton that offer lessons.

KBL Kite School

Kitesurfing School

Kitepower Australia

Kitesurfing School

Abyss Scuba Diving

Lots of great dive sites here especially The Steps, The Leap and Oak Park.

Hong Ha Bakery

You might have to line up for the banh mi here. Great feed for a great price.

The Best Noodle Inn

Great tasting food and friendly people. $10 to $12 for a huge plate of noodles or rice. Cash only.

Cronulla Bakehouse

No nonsense bakery with good pies and banh mi.

Barefoot on the Beach Cafe

Nice coffee right on South Cronulla Beach.

Ramsgate Beach

Hot showers across the road from Coles at Ramsgate Rd. BBQs at the southern end of the beach at Dolls Point. All the carparks close at 10pm. Shops etc. all here.

Kurnell Park

Plenty of parking but no shade. There are toilets & rubbish bins but no showers. Decent beach along here. There are BBQs in the National Park about 10 mins drive from here.

Lots of Parking close to Cronulla and right on the beach. Not much shade here. Showers, toilets and rubbish bins but no BBQ around.

Cronulla Beach Backpackers

Friendly place and the only backpackers around. It is a bit grubby and mainly full of long termers. Good area to find work.
