Southbank and West End

On the southern side of the Brisbane River from the CBD is Southbank. This is the cultural hub of the city and has some beautiful parklands along the river. West End is a bit hipster and a bit hippy. Great vibe here and lots of young people around.

This is a great place to meet girls. The parklands along the river are beautiful and very busy in the afternoon. There are 2 unis here so there are plenty of students. This is the place to be for backpackers and travellers in Brisbane. Boundary St in the West End draws a lot of hippy girls. There are a lot of backpackers here as there are some big hostels in the area.  ... ... ... ...

West End is more laid back and has more of a hippy vibe than the CBD and the Valley. It is walking distance to Southbank.

This is the best place in town on Sundays. Prime time to come here is about 10pm. Lots of attractive girls, mainly students. The crowd here is young. There is often a long line to get in.

Really pretty girls here but not the most social place. Good on a Sunday.

Old school pub that is being revamped for a more suburban crowd.

Cool beer bar that draws a pretty good crowd. Beer is cheaper on Sunday. Lots of hipsters.

Nice during the day and draws a good crowd on Saturday nights. Sundays they host the Boundary St Markets.

Good beer garden and tasty burgers.

Nice little hole in the wall venue for local bands and acoustic acts. You will probably have to pay $10 or so to get in.

Really great vibe here friendly staff. Small place and the prices are on the high side. Good music.

Huge bar that fills up for major events.

Nice little jazz bar by the river.

Really nice artificial beach. Big crowds especially on the weekend in summer. Great for sunbathing and hanging out.

Beautiful park along the river with great BBQ spots. There is also a giant Ferris Wheel that will give you a great view of the city. Lots of cafes and bars along the river. Great spot to chill and watch the sun go down.

You can walk up the steep stairs here for a great view. Great spot for rock climbing and abseiling.

They run climbing and abseiling as well as hire of kayaks, bikes & rollerblades.

Great markets that run all weekend from Friday nights. Lots of food & clothes. Can be a bit expensive.

Nice relaxed market every Saturday in the West End.

Free entry to these great Art galleries. The modern art gallery is particularly good.

Beautiful bridge and a nice park underneath. You can climb the bridge for between $119 and $159. Book through this website (storybridgeadventureclimb.com.au).

Cheap movies here $8.50.

Buzzing little Greek spot with great food.

Cheap wraps and probably the best falafels in town. Everything here is cheap and good.

Great coffee and chai. Nice cakes and good food. BYO.

Cool warehouse style restaurant where different chefs take over on different nights. You can get some great food here.

Great German food and the biggest selection of beer you will see. It is inside the German Club which you will have to join for an additional $5.

Climb up the steep path from the river to have a coffee on the balcony.

At the eastern end there is a parking time limit of 4 hours but the time limit is not enforced. You can sleep uninterrupted. There are BBQs and toilets here and showers at the nearby Southbank Lagoon.

Friendly hostel with a pool and great prices. Little bit dirty and the kitchen is small.

Quiet residential spot but only a few minutes walk from the West End. Fridges in the dorm rooms.

Basic place with great prices and a BBQ. Very sociable.

Free pickups and drop offs and a great pool.

Nice place a bit. A of a walk from town. They can help with longer term stays.
