Every day there are boats departing from Airlie Beach to tour the islands. If you show up in town and are flexible you will be able to get a bargain. Just ask a few travel agents if they are trying to fill up a spot. You will need to pay a National Park levy on top of the price. You can get camping permits online or by calling 13 13 04. Off the main islands it is unlikely that your permit will be checked.
